Delany's Garden

"Delany's Garden" contains cut paper, cut silk, drawings, and embroidered cut silk the same mediums used by the botanist/artist Mary Delany (1700-1788).  The black shape represents a ballgown Delany once wore to the Royal Court of England on which she embroidered the country's native flowers.

Mary Delany was an avid botanist, garden designer, writer, artist and member of the Blue Stocking Group.  Delany is known for her over 900 paper-mosaick flowers so realistic that Kew Gardens used them as source material for their archives during her lifetime.  Today her artwork resides in the British Museum.
